The ART FROSHIKI exhibition at Maison du Japon presented a captivating collection of Japanese art transformed into furoshiki, traditional square cloths used for wrapping and carrying objects.

One section of the exhibition featured tanbo art, or rice paddy art, reproducing intricate designs created in rice fields on furoshiki.

Another section focused on Japan’s decorative manhole covers, which often feature unique designs inspired by local culture, landmarks, and regional identity. These designs were also reproduced on furoshiki for the exhibition.

The exhibition also included furoshiki featuring characters inspired by Japan’s video game culture, bringing together contemporary popular culture and traditional Japanese textile forms.

Through these works, visitors could experience the diversity of Japanese art and culture through furoshiki, celebrating both creativity and tradition.
